Weddings are a special events that go far beyond the normal DJ responsibilities. For all other events, the DJ carries the responsibility of entertaining your guests only. For weddings it is a bit different. Everything happens on a strict time table for your reception to flow smoothly, and the Wedding DJ is critical to pulling that off. We will sit down with you in advance to learn exactly what time the reception is going to begin, so that music is playing when your guests begin to come in. It is important to note that you will not enter the reception at the same time as your guests. You will follow along later with your Groom, after the wedding photographer has finished with you.

Your photographer will need roughly 45 minutes with the Bride and Groom, Wedding Party, and immediate family to capture all the photographs that happen right after the ceremony. There are couple shots, and group shots to think of and that takes time. If your reception is located away from the ceremony, there is travel time to consider. As your wedding DJ, I understand this. So I will know exactly when to expect you to walk in. This is important because I will have to announce the grand entrance of the new Bride and Groom.

I will then announce to your guests when the following events are to take place. And I will have already spoken with you at length to determine exactly when all of this should happen. This is important because you will have reserved your event location for a specific amount of time. You will have reserved your caterer for a specific amount of time. In addition, your photographer will only be retained for a specific amount of time. So having your reception flowing on a specified time table is critical.

  • Approximate time of guest arrival at the reception location.
  • Approximate arrival time of the Bride and Groom.
  • Time of the first dance and song choice.
  • Time of the Bride and Father of the Bride's dance and song choice.
  • Time of the cake cutting.
  • Time of the toast.
  • Best Man's toast and Bride's Maid toast.
  • Any special songs and sound tracks by special singers.
  • Time of the bouquet toss.
  • Time of the garter toss.
  • The time the happy couple will make their Grand Exit.

All these events noted above will be announced at the prescribed time by the Wedding DJ, and I will keep the list of events with all the names of the participants with me for reference. In short, a wedding is an extremely coordinated event for the DJ. My best friend is a wedding photographer. He and I both have shared the frustration at events where this attention to detail, and preplanning was not adhered to. Having a Wedding DJ that understands the flow that takes place, and works with the Bride in advance, allows the Bride to totally relax and enjoy the event she has worked so hard in planning.
